Chus Burés in collaboration with contemporary artists
Coinciding with Art I 40 I Basel and Design Miami Basel 2009
Basel, Switzerland

Chus Burés, renowned Spanish jewellery designer, will present a series of collaborations with internationally acclaimed artists:

Louise Bourgeois
Jesús Soto
Jiri George Dokoupil
Miquel Barceló
Kcho
Santiago Sierra
Cinzia Ruggeri a. o.

The handcrafted collection in gold, silver and with diamonds will be exhibited for the first time in Switzerland.

The eminent art critic and curator Pierre Restany wrote that Chus Burés ... understands the delicate thread that links the world of art to the world of design, and the fundamental ambivalence of the philosophy of design from the post-modern perspective. The everyday object is also an art object: oggetto d'uso-oggetto d'arte...

Jewels from the Artists in Collaboration with Chus Burés Collection are in public and private international collections, among them the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Currently they are exhibited in :  From Picasso to Warhol - avant-garde artists jewellery at Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Cologne, until 19 July 2009, and Bijoux d'artistes at Le Musée du Temps, Besançon, from 26 June until 11 October 2009.

Artists in Collaboration with Chus Burés Collection represents a dialogue between design and art, which opens new visions and approaches to the world of design that without doubt belong to a very current debate within the international contemporary art scene.

RODCHENKO, A DECISIVE PRECURSOR OF CONSTRUCTIVIST DESIGN METHOD Print E-mail

Aleksandr Rodchenko

On these days, there is a very interesting exposition in Barcelona (Spain). The “Fundació obra social de Caixa Catalunya” shows great part of the works of Aleksandr Rodchenko, a multi-talented artist of the Russian Avant-garde. This exhibition is located in an unsurpassable place, “La Pedrera”, until 5 January and with free admission.

Aleksandr Rodchenko revolutionized soviet design in different aspects. He designed and illustrated a large number of books with the novel method of photocollage. He also applied constructivist principles to industrial production of daily objects. In this case, Rodchenko made forays into the theatre, film and above all printed material. Finally, he also contributed to spread his ideas to higher state artistic and technical workshops.

This exposition looks at each of the Aleksandr Rodchenko’s many facets and at every stage in his life and work. In studying Rodchenko’s thinking and his enormous output, including paintings and drawings, constructions, photomontages, photographs and design, the exhibition also prompts us to reflect on the paradoxes and difficult relationships between the authorities, the commitment of the artist and his sense of social responsibility, and political propaganda.

CHILLIDA LEKU Print E-mail

Have you ever been in the Vasque country here in Spain? It's quite hard to explain it, because it's not that we're talking about a beautiful place, or even a very attractive destination...What you find there is a weird mixture of a green-grey magic with the greatest food you've ever tasted in a "pintxo" way and the so peculiar friendly people. In this parade we find the Eduardo Chillida's Museum, the one and only experience of his sculptures in the wilderness.

The Museum is located in the nerness of San Sebastián ("Donostia" in euskera), so it's quite probably you find a grey sky attempting to rain in everymoment with some short lapsus of sun, that returns the colour essence to the landscape. As you start walking through this iron bodies placed all over the field, your mind begins to show itself receptive within this place and the magic that stems. In the end you leave with the impression that a little part of you has been retained there, like if some of that magic was sowed in you and inevitably grows until becomes part of you.

Letters & Lletres Print E-mail

Letters & Lletres is the title Mariscal has given to his current exhibition at Caterinart Gallery, Barcelona.

For those who say that letters are forms to "draw" instead of "write", this is the place to go, because in there you will find pieces of art with letters as main characters.

Caterinart is a gallery situated in the famous Born district, just behind the (even more) famous Santa Caterina market. A color explosion that introduces you to the exhibition.

Everyone know the work of Mariscal, so don't expect to find any Helvetica or Garamond there. But you can find some nice inspirational artwork.

You can find references about the exhibition in both pages of Caterinart and Mariscal's blog.

Check fascination map if you want to know how to get there.

And... have fun with the letters!

Eames Exhibition at VitraBCN Print E-mail

Located in Vitra's showroom in nº 5 Carrer Del Comerç.

Once you arrive, elegance oozes all around, not only because of the various
cubic modules in which the marvelous objects are exposed, but for the weird atmosphere of perfection.
As staunch fans of the Eames couple, we may not criticize them with the most impartial point of view, but what is evident for anyone who has ever seen or usedone of their masterpieces, is that simplicity and balance is patent in every single object. This happens because we can find ourselves face to face with these creations, we are connected into a remote part of deign, nowadays almost forgotten... the well-done objects to be used by everyone.
