Fascination is a contemporary design project created by the Spanish designer Chus Burés, who will impart his unique methodology and design secrets to a select group of participants, half from Spain and half from Thailand .
Each group, working directly under Chus Burés, will together produce a series of virtual objects, which will reflect a synthesis of cultures, skills, and acquired knowledge.
Fascination will be conducted entirely over the Internet, using a proven structure developed by the Catalan university Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) for one of their Master’s programs.
Chus Burés, in conjunction with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain (UPC) and the School of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand (SOAD, KMUTT).
UPC and SOAD, KMUTT will each provide ten participants, a local physical space and a supervisor to monitor their respective groups on a day-to-day basis.
A four-week workshop beginning in mid-May 2007.
In late Autumn 2007, there will be an exhibition showing the results of the project provisionally scheduled to take place in Shanghai.

On March 26th, Chus Burés took the Spanish Deputy Director of the Fascination Project Bangkok-Barcelona 2007 Mr. José Luis Eguia, to Bangkok for a five-day visit. This was to accomplish several objectives, amongst which was to meet his counterparts in Thailand. One of the goals of the Fascination project is to set up and consolidate exchanges of design knowledge between UPC and Thai development groups and centres. On the Friday Mr. Eguia met various representatives from the Department of Export Promotion including our Honorary General Director, Mrs. Supatra Srisook. Mr. Eguia also demonstrated the Adobe Connect system which will form one of the communication technologies used during the project. Overall, a very useful trip for all those concerned.

The entire project will be deliberately engineered to mirror the real world: where working with other cultures and resolving problems together, using only the Internet, is fast becoming a critical skill in the globalized economy.-The content of the project should reflect commercial realities
-The content of the project... should reflect environmental issues -The content of the project... should reflect its multi-cultural nature -The content of the project... should emphasize collaboration
One designer. Two Institutions. Thirty participants.
All communicating in one language -across two cultures -through the Internet.
Chus Burés, one of Spain’s most internationally recognized designers, will impart his unique methodology and design secrets to a select group of participants, half from Spain and half from Thailand.
The Technical University of Catalonia is a higher education institution whose primary goal is academic excellence in teaching and research and the transfer of its results to society.
We are striving towards a more cultured society, in which citizens are able to have a say about major issues and challenges that arise in the complex, technological society in which we live. We try to do so in keeping with the role that UPC plays as an actor in the process of socio-economic advancement and regional balance. As a result, our design is to train professionals who are able to contribute to the progress of society, and who are committed to respecting the environment, sustainability, solidarity between nations and the culture of peace.
